5 Demo Mistakes That Get You Skipped in 30 Seconds
Mix loudness, slow intros, no chorus by 0:45 — easy fixes that double your callback rate.
We listen to every demo that comes through SAA. Most don't get past 30 seconds. Here's why.
1. The intro is too long. If your first chorus or hook isn't recognizable by 0:45, expect a skip.
2. The mix is quiet. We don't need a brick-walled master, but a -16 LUFS demo next to a -8 LUFS playlist sounds broken.
3. The vocal is buried. If we can't catch the title on first listen, neither can a supervisor.
4. No structural contrast. Verse and chorus should not be the same dynamic and the same instrumentation.
5. The pitch is the artist's life story. We just need: title, BPM, key, who controls it, and one sentence about what it's for.
